'Twas the Night Before Finals...

...And all through the dorms
Not a creature was sleeping, but that was the norm
The students were nestled all slumped at their desks
While visions of scantrons danced through their heads
Their study guides covered the desks in piles
In hopes their efforts would be worthwhile.
When out in the lounge their arose such a clatter
When a book flew across and hit the wall with a splatter
"Agh, Lacky and Lytle and both the Shumakers
And Cragoe and Schloegel!" cry all the test takers.
"Your tests and exams they make me go crazy,
And I'll probably wake up with my brain all hazy!"
Their shouts and their cries rise up from their rooms
As they study and study for the week of gloom
Christmas break awaits on the other side of this week
But finals create a schism that looks rather bleak.

When at last the time for testing is come,
Hard preparations will prove well for some.
The Residence Halls fall silent in the morning
While nervous butterflies flitter with warning.
"Do your best on this exam" they all will say,
But what everyone really wants is only an "A."
From bed to breakfast with study guides in hand
"Some last minute cramming won't hurt," they demand.
They trudge up the stairs of the floors of Jackson Hall
Where the semester's last judgment will take place for all.
And then with a sigh the pencils will strike
A, B, C, or D - pick the one you most like.
When you are finished, hand it in with a smile,
And to your teachers say goodbye for a while.
Now take a deep breath and exclaim "I'm done!"
Don't answer the question, "Now wasn't that fun?!"
The students now leave skipping with glee,
For finals are over and their families to see.
Within minutes, it seems, they drive out of sight.
Shouting, "Happy Christmas to all, and to all a goodnight!"
